Lekdijk

Lexmond – Ameide (NL) White

Dutch Water Authority Rivierenland is responsible for water control in one of the most attractive areas of the Netherlands, the River Area. Some of the tasks of the water board are water management (maintenance, water levels, water quality) and looking after the dikes and ‘boezem’ (drainage) quays.

Some of the dikes are used heavily by recreational visitors by car, motorbike or bike. Safety and visibility are therefor major points of concern to the Authority.

At one of the dikes, the Lekdijk, was chosen for an asphalt on the cycling lanes which reflects light and makes especially cyclists better visible. The asphalt is made of Reflexing white aggregate with clear binder and pigment.

Because the asphalt is almost white it is much more resistant to heat and therefor more resistant to rutting.
